I don't even know where to start. I saw an ad for Eve and decided on a whim...
"What the hell? 14 days free trial, spaceships, cool!".
I loved it from the moment I first played. In fact I subbed after about a half hour of play. This was the game that I had been looking for and I was a happy happy boy. Now where is the game I love so dearly? It doesn't exist anymore. Remember back when Rev2 was rolled out? The multiple rolling dc's that would kill the server for hours at a time, the constant notes in the game launcher from CCP saying:
"omfg sorry! We think *insert techy thing here* has happened and we're working full speed on fixing it!"
Yeah the game was technically in pretty rough shape back then but the communication, the caring, the dedication from CCP to make things right was truly inspiring. It was a major factor in what made me keep playing.
The current contempt and blame game-ing that seems to be going around makes me very sad indeed. I have canceled 2 out of 3 accounts already and I really don't want to cancel this one but tbh it is looking more and more like now is the time to say goodbye.
This is your intervention CCP. Get off the dope, straighten up and fly right. Otherwise I will no longer enable your self-destruction. I love you too much to do that. |

Originally by: CCP Soundwave No one has said rockets won't get fixed for two years. Incarna is on its way, that doesn't mean we'll stop developing flying in space; we're still iterating on planetary interaction, we're still making PVE content and we're going to bring you Invasion. Rockets are part of the flying in space experience and as long as we're developing that, you could get the rocket change.
So Soundwave, since Explorer stated unequivocally in this very thread that rockets are working as intended by design, can I take your statement that we could still get the rocket change as "please stfu you're overheating our dc2"?
I mean come on, others have said it and I'll say it again: IT ISN'T ABOUT ROCKETS!
The rocket fix (or lack thereof) is really just the poster boy for the problem. That problem is CCP purposefully ignoring of Eve for 18 months!
And before you say you're working on the space aspect of the game again (which is the only aspect of the game btw, incarna and dust are not eve, they are new games take place in the eve universe), remember that it was clearly stated in Zulu's blog that nothing will be done for 18 months.
18 months.
18
months
Thank you for making a great game. Sad to see it go.

Originally by: CCP Soundwave You're reading too much into it. I don't think we should, or will, ever stop developing flying in space, it's the core part of our gameplay.
A core you all seem to think is working so well it can do without a little tender loving care for the next year and a half.
The more I hear from CCP reps the more angry i get. I'd go play that other MMO but they're busy implementing some big patches on their servers atm. You know, fixing the core part of their gameplay...
I need some tea...

Originally by: Consortium Agent Incarna IS Eve, by the way. As with many aspects of Eve, it's not more space fighting stuff, it's yet another realm within eve just like PI, just like manufacturing or research, just like missions, exploration (wormholes) and half a dozen other aspects of Eve that aren't 'shoot him in the face'.
Sorry to snip out most of your post. It was well written, but this is really the only point I wanted to discuss.
You may have a point when you say Incarna is eve and I may be wrong when I say it is a separate game. At this point I really don't know enough about how it will be deployed.
In that case I have a question for the appropriate CCP dev (explorer prolly).
Will Incarna run from the same client as Eve(the spaceship part) or will it be a separate client with the same login details that just pulls the relevant data from TQ?
*if this question has been answered in a dev blog I humbly apologize. I looked but did not find and it is my ignorant fault not anyone elses.*
It seems to me that it is going to be a bit more graphics-intensive than the current eve client, but tbh I really don't have any expertise in this field.
So please enlighten me! If both "games" run from the same client (be it the current eve client or some new uber-client) then I concede the point that incarna is eve is incarna etc...
If not, what is incarna then?

Would it matter if it were two different clients? Assuming you didnt notice the transition (e.g log out of eve, log on to incarna) which appears the case its really makes little difference.
C.
Have you tried logging out of one account to log into another? Doesn't it still close the client for you and just automatically reopen it so you can log another account in? That annoys me but at least it is still to use the same game features.
If you have to do that to play an entirely different aspect to the same game it seems...wrong to me.
Just to me mind you. You don't see it as an issue and maybe in the long run it is just about semantics but I would appreciate a dev response saying "Leaving your ship to wis will be seamless without the need to log out of the client and log into another one."
THAT would tell me that incarna is eve and they're still working on eve.
I'm grasping at straws here

No offense but I dont see the point Monkey. The issue still remains:
There are a whole host of existing problems that the player base would like to see addressed either:
i) BEFORE new content is added (that's my preference) or ii) In conjunction with the introduction of new content, albeit scaled down based on current projections as resources would need to be moved from the new content to resolving older issues.
One of the primary, and imo very realistic concerns I have is - New content will be added. Existing issues will either be not addressed, nor addressed in a half-hearted placating type attempt.
New content will have bugs/issues of its own. Since its shiny and new, newer players, and some older ones, and even CCP themselves will want to resolve those issues to get the new shiney up and running largely issue free.
This results in not only setting back the implementation time frame for fixes of older, and imo, vexing issues, but also FURTHER setting back those fixes to older, more vexing issues percisely because there will be NEW issues created that need to be resolved.
This could, in effect, be a never ending cycle.
You get no argument from me, hence my last statement about grasping at straws. Maybe I should have been more clear and say that I'm grasping at straws, trying to think of anything to get me to resub at the end of the month. I've already stated that I used to run 3 accounts and 2 have been canceled last month because of these very same issues and this one is next.
That being said, incarna COULD be really cool, but if CCP doesn't put more effort into their core gameplay (internet spaceships) then I will not be around to test incarna out. There are plenty of other mmo's out there and being released that are much more worthy of my time and money.
Edit: I would also love to have forums that don't log me out while i type a reply forcing me to relog before submitting it.

Originally by: EdFromHumanResources CCP stated over and over they were really excited about PI. I am curious why anyone at CCP or on that project could be excited about something that was more boring that POS work? Especially considering POS work is already considered one of the worst facets of Eve.
CCP also said they were really excited about Faction Warfare and what that would allow them to do with it in the future. Faction Warfare was summarily abandoned after it's inception and it was horrible on release and still is very broken.
CCP says they are excited about Incarna, this should concern people.
Honestly never made that connection until just now. Scary thought for sure.

Edited by: Monkey Saturday on 20/07/2010 22:16:41 Seems that the teams should have something I like to call a "team leader" who all get together to chat about what each others team is doing.
Doesn't have to be every day for hours on end of course, I think once a week for an hour or 2. Why not make it Friday morning? Bagels! YUM! You guys and girls could keep each team apprised of the general gist of what you've done that week so that maybe some of this "communication" that Ensign Zulu mentioned could actually start. Once you all start talking THEN come back and talk to us.
Just an idea and probably a bad one according to CCP's current business model.
Edit: Damn you're fast Ex. Thanks for the answer. And please understand that my ire and probably everyone elses is not aimed at any specific dev (minus zulu of course) but at the way the dev team is being run. I know you guys can do good work.
So...please get on it

Originally by: Vadimik TBH, yes, I do see some of it as a ploy. (Not you or anyone in particular.) As long as it's not a ploy - I don't see it as borderline-anything either.
Ploy you say? This is a game and to hell with it. If they don't address these issues within the next 2 weeks this account will run out of plex time and that will be the end of eve for me.
Sad? Hells yes this game means a lot to me! Does it mean enough for me to keep paying for it in it's broken state? Even if YOU don't think it broken I DO and I just told CCP the only real way I can.
CCP lost 3 accounts and $44.85 a month from me. That money will go towards KOTOR when it comes out.

And this just illustrates why I and many others are so angry atm. At best a large portion of your player base has had their confidence in CCP's commitment to improving eve online SEVERELY SHAKEN. At worst people are starting to take their money elsewhere.
People are looking to the devs to at the very least come in and say "Dear community, we are PAINFULLY aware that this dev blog has caused some serious concerns and we PROMISE we will get back to you with a well written explanation as to why you should stick with us. THat is why we have been absent from this threadnaught. We love eve and we are dedicated to improving it in every possible way!"
What do we get instead?

Originally by: Thrasymachus TheSophist p.s. this is why most MMOs have people whose job it is to specifically interact with the players on the boards ...
Since they've been so helpful so far...
Srsly though I agree with you. I would be more than happy with hearing things through a community rep middleman instead of straight from the dev's mouth.
Unfortunately there's this little communication breakdown thing that's going on at ccp so...
